CURRICULUM
Before the Summit
Participants will be required to prepare a draft of a Pathways to Peace project before they arrive for the Summit. Some Pathways to Peace initiatives will focus on such large scale issues as poverty, nuclear proliferation and the environment. Others will be community-based, social entrepreneurship programs involving some project that fosters peace, such as juvenile justice, conflict resolution, non-violence, youth sports programs, mentoring and civil rights.
During the Summit
Participants will then receive leadership training and targeted assistance in social entrepreneurship and development of community-based programs. This will be achieved by embarking on the first of two academic courses. During the Summit, participants will complete the first interactive course. The second course will be completed after the Summit. This course will focus on the implementation of the Pathways to Peace projects.
The Summit curriculum will supplemented by symposiums hosted by prominent speakers - recognized world leaders who can be characterized as peace brokers. Past speakers at events hosted by the Institute for International Sport include General Colin Powell, President Bill Clinton, Israeli President Shimon Peres, Senator George Mitchell and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel. The complete list of past speakers can be found here.
After the Summit
With the support of the Center for Social Entrepreneurship (CSE), the entire curriculum will be available online following the Summit. The CSE will offer continued support of the Pathways to Peace initiatives of the Summit participants.
Following the Summit, the second online course will be offered. This course will focus on the implementation and follow through of the Pathways to Peace Programs. Participants will be encouraged to document their projects to be showcased by the World Youth Peace Summit’s online community.
